How do I choose the right size?

Getting the best size crate for your dog depends on various factors. Here are some good things to consider to get the most ideal fit.

Transportation vs. Home Kenneling

First up, ask yourself. How are you going to use your crate the most? If you plan to use your crate on-the-go, we suggest a closer fit. Having less excess space is safer for your dog in the event of an accident.

If you plan to use your crate in your vehicle, you need to measure the length, width, and height of the vehicle's cargo space or truck bed to ensure your crate will fit.

If you have questions about flying with your pup, please see our FAQs page.

If your number one plan for your crate is home kenneling, follow the directions below to measure your dog.

Measure your dog:

First, measure the length - from the tip of their nose to the base of their tail. Then measure from the ground up to the top of their head for height.

Now that you know your dog's size, take a look at these crate measurements below to help you decide which one will house your pup the best.

Our Two Cents Worth

We understand you want your dog to be comfortable — especially when you have a larger breed and are looking for a big dog crate that won’t feel cramped. We designed our XL dog crate to fit the largest common breeds, but your dog and lifestyle are unique, so we cannot guarantee the perfect fit every time. However, we try to give you all the info you need to get it right.

It's important to remember that dogs are den animals and feel secure when they have their own burrow-like space. However, picking the right crate size really depends on the way you plan to use it, what your K9 is familiar with, and what you feel fits. If your dog is frequently crated, you may want something larger; if you plan to use your crate for travel only, you may not worry about having extra room. Whether you’re searching for an L dog crate or even an XL dog crate and aren’t sure what to purchase, reach out to us; we'd love to help you.
